“Midwest Eye” art exhibit slated at Ag Hall of Fame
During the month of May the Gallery of Rural Art at The National Agricultural Center and Hall of Fame will feature “Midwest Eye,” an exhibition of artwork by Kansas artist Marcia Vogel.
Marcia received her master’s degree from UMKC in 1976. Her thesis was in mural painting. Though retired, Marcia is still active in the arts. She teaches art through programs at Johnson County Community College, Johnson County Parks and Recreation, and Grandview Parks and Recreation. She is a member of the Harrisonville Fine Art Association, Belton Art Association and the Senior Arts Council
The National Agricultural Center and Hall of Fame is located just northeast of I-70 in Bonner Springs. It is open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday. Art exhibits announced at KCK public libraries
The Kansas City Kansas Public Libraries have announced a series of art exhibits. All are free and open to the public.
West Wyandotte Library -- May 2 through 30, photographs by Calvin Burgess will be on display in the Fine Arts Gallery, and Photographs by Bettse Folsom will be on display in the exhibit cases at the West Wyandotte Library. Mr. Burgess is a member of the Wyandotte Camera Club and will be showing some of his recent photographs. Bettse Folsom is a lifelong Kansas City, Kansas, resident and frequent contributor to The Wyandotte West and The Piper Press.. She will show photographs taken at home and on her travels.
The West Wyandotte Library is located at 1737 N. 82nd St. Library hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Main Library -- Through May 19, “Loving Our Community through the Camera Lens,” the Bethel Neighborhood Center Youth Photo Project will be on display at the Main Library. The Bethel Youth worked with professional photographer Oscar Pedroza in the summer of 2007. They were given disposable cameras and used them to take photographs of the downtown KCK area. Their photographs make up the exhibition.
The Main Library will be a stop on the “Follow the Dotte Downtown KCK Art Walk” from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 9. Stop at the Main Library and meet the artists.

Argentine Library -- Through May 21, artwork by Theresa Cleaves will be on display at the Argentine Library. Ms. Cleaves is a member of the Northland Exposure Gallery and is president of the Leavenworth County Artists Association.
The Argentine Library is located at 2800 Metropolitan Ave. Library hours are 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Schlagle Library -- Through June 20, “In Fiore (In Bloom),” photographs by Shana Gammon will be on display at the Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Library. Ms. Gammon presently resides in Lynchburg, Va., but is a native of Kansas City, Mo. She will be showing floral photography.
The Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Library is located at 4051 West Drive, Wyandotte County Lake Park. Library hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and the third Saturday of the month.
Turner Community Library -- Through May 9, “Nature and Light,” photographs by Jonathan McGrath will be on display at the Turner Community Library. Jon has been practicing photography for over 10 years. In the winter of 2006 Jon moved to Kansas City, Kansas, and began working at the F.L. Schlagle Library, an environmental learning center. Jon is currently a member of the Kansas City Digital Photography Club. This is Jon’s first public exhibit of his work.
May 12 through July 11, artwork by Lorri Boydston will be on display at the Turner Community Library. A native of suburbia, Ms. Boydston creates art that speaks of the tension between illusion and reality inherent in a suburban community.
The Turner Community Library is located in the Arthur C. Waugh Turner Community Center, 831 S. 55th St. Library hours are noon to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. The library is closed on Sunday.
